Looked at them and have seen them in person, not bad, also Amazon had them on special 2 weeks ago for $249

From talking with a couple of swag users up here they recommended an open foot screen as well to minimise condensation from 2 bods in the swag, especially on cold nights. Also helps with ventilation on hotter nights.

Things I like about it:

• It's roomy and airy
• It's very warm and comfortable to sleep in
• It fends off the rain really well
• It comes in it's own bag which is great for packing it away when wet
• You can get into it from the top or from the front door
• The mozzie net parts are of top quality
• The zips are robust and solid
• It's solid canvas - nice and heard-wearing
• It's quick to erect and to put away
• It can be used without the poles perfectly well...on a dry night!

Things I dislike about it:

• The seams needed a good initial dousing to waterproof them
• You need to set it up really well if it's going to be a wet night and it needs to be nice and taut.
• The top velcro flap is a bit annoying to fit once you're in it - needs to be done before you get in. Even then it occasionally leaves wee gaps so if it's windy and rainy, the odd drip could work its way in (hasn't happened to me yet)
• The centre pole velcro stays aren't as strong as they could be. If you're a wriggler, you might dislodge one. N.B. I don't know what the setup is on the queen size
• The way the poles fit the foot part is nothing short of silly. Why they're different to the big hoop at the front is quite beyond me.
• The pole sections should be attached to each other with elastics.

That's about it. I love mine. Tough and rugged. Comfy. If I spend a night on a particularly stony bit of ground, I'll use a sleeping mat as well but that's because I'm soft. In truth, I rarely need it.

Baz, We have had a King Size Saul Swag for over 15 years and we are very happy with it.

We contacted Saul and explained we needed a longer and wider swag, as Sheila & I are both quite tall. They made a King size one for us and it's big enough for us.

Give them a call and see if they can make a larger one for you.

What about Mr Swagman?

Swag products Australia - Aussie Swags by Mr Swagman - Australian Camping and Gear - Bush Swags Bed rolls - Camping Bed - Campout Products

I know they are not cheap but this one looks good for any season etc, I plan on getting some for trips where it is just me and my two young boys.

It can be used as a mosquito net in the hotter times or a zip it up for full protection.

I also spoke to them about doing a custom size for a rooftop tent, they may be able to do a specific size for a swag if needed.

In 2000 I bought a 4WD Outback swag from annaconda. It was reasonably cheap $165, it was light with strong zips. I didnt expect too much but it has served me well with no rips tears or breakages and has an extremely comfortable hi density matteress . I have now slept hundreds of nights in it. It had 3 sets of hoops but I tossed the centre ones away. Durable? yes. Rugged? guess so. Comfortable? yes. and it is completely insect proof with heaps of ventilation if you want it. It even has security tabs inside which can stop your drunken mates from unzipping it in the middle of the night, internal pockets for keys/torches/phones. I got ****canned by mates initially for its size rolled up but no one says anything any more....its good gear.

What I like about SFTH, is the weight. Swag with it's built in foam mat, plus thermarest plus double doona is still <5kg (and about 20" across rolled). Compared to my original canvas at about 30" across when rolled, and over 20kg. Also has built in straps for carrying as a backpack.

I can highly recommend for anyone wanting a single travel swag. Only thing I don't like is the flaps fold over in the opposite way I'm used to.

It's amazing how many of these supposed Australian made swags, are not, once you start chatting to the company owners, you soon find out that they are actually designed here but made in China, Fiji or India:mad:

There are exceptions Snowy Mountain Company, Panorama, Sauls, Southern Cross, Mr Swagman, there is a New Zealand maker, but for the life of me, I cannot find them.

Our heart says Australian(New Zealand) made but the wallet says others:(

Found a few that were "made in Australia" but only found 2 that used local canvas manufactures (rest mostly Chinese) and having a brain fart trying to remember then just know they were out of my price range.
