    Old Military Stoves

Sorry if the is the wrong section for this stuff but I was hoping to get some answers about military issue cooking stoves.

A friend of mine is right into old gasoline/kero/other stoves from WW1, WW2 and beyond and my interest has been stimulated.

There appears to be quite a lot of interest around the world in old mil-spec stoves and I am looking at finding one. Not just for the nostalgia but as a practical camping stove. Models such as the "M1950" appear to be durable and effective. There are many makes and most look to be USA or Swedish made.

So does anyone know what our own forces used and perhaps are still using?

Anyone got a stash of surplus stoves and would be willing to sell one, or advise where I could find one?

    thanks

I've got one the same as is shown in the following link. I bought it from a bloke who hawks ex army spares, tools etc around vehicle/machinery swap meets etc. mine is brand new, complete with the little spares kit and spanner. cost $30.00. He had lots of them. Probably still has. Last year he had a liquid fuel field kitchen cooker. several burners. All folded neatly into its case. I was very tempted. That was at the Clarendon (west of Sydney) antique machinery rally.

Would love to know who that bloke was Don.
I guess many of those people around the traps are not easily contactable.

$30 was an absolute steal. Some of these stoves are going for over $150.
I think with all the accessories and containers they would be an excellent fallback cooker.

    Hi mate,

I think you are after a hexi stove. I did a quick google search and this site http://www.kellyscamping.com.au/p/59...exi-stove.html has pictures and they are cheap. Hope this helps.

    Cheers

Yes the m1950 was used by the Aust army and the last one I purchased was from a swap meet in sydney for $30 dollars and the bloke had plenty of them.
Barbeques Galore sell a slightlythinner/cheaper version of the army Hexy stove with spare Heximine tablets advailible.
The australian army also used American petrol heated equiptment in the field.
At my work is a petrol stove which can bake food, boil water for up to 30 men, it is portable with any different heating pans etc to be used with it.
I do have a book with it some where.
A pic of it running on LPG is in my Ultimate F/C thread some where.
I always liked the army petrol inmersion heaters called a choofer, they worked very well, and if operated wrong would go bang.
The Australian army used 4 whelled Wiles cookers up until 1983.
I currently have a very restorable Wiles cooker advailible offered to me at a good price with spare parts etc.
I just dont have time to take it on.
