another plug for the oztents.
we have a rv4 along with the peaked side panels and front panel.
The tent is our home for our trip around Australia and so far it's been 5 months and it's been great.
we just set up the tent for overnight stops and get out the panels and front awning for longer stops/bad weather.
stands up against strong winds like a champ and rain down't phase the oztent either. it's very water tight.
another tent I would consider would be the jet tent.

Yep, had both the RV5 and JetTent, and both were great as was aftermarket support. Personally think the JT was much more spacious, packs up smaller but could still go on the roof, and almost as quick to set up and pack up.
Only concern was the proprietary components that could be a bigger to fix/replace.

Has anyone tried the new Malamoo Mega Pop Up Tent? Claims to sleep 4 & has 1.5 m head room - almost enough to dress standing up? Just what I need another tent:D.

Another fan of the Oztent here. We have the RV5 with fly and front room extension.
Have also just bought the Ironman awning "room" which attaches very quickly under the awning that we already have on the left side of the Disco. This is very good as a "quick" set-up option for overnight stays when travelling. We have a Southern Cross double swag that we use on the ground next to the car for these quick stops - the Ironman "room" provides SWMBO with the area of "privacy" that she wants when camping without having to get the Oztent down off the roof and put it up. ;)
Takes up a little bit of space if you carry the full thing with you - but the floor un-zips and comes out. If you remove the floor and leave it at home, the rest of it takes up very little room at all and can be easily jammed into a corner somewhere. For what we use the "room" for - the floor is not really a requirement, as we always put a sheet of that "shadecloth" like matting on the ground next to the car anyway and throw the swag down on that.

Just a quick post to remind me to write a longer one when I get home on the computer and can post pics....
With tents it really is horses for courses and there is no one tent to rule them all..... Unfortunately I have quite a few different styles of camping "scenarios" that range from relative luxury large tents by oztrail, (The tourer 10 plus when ive got company, the tropical 9 when Im solo), geodesic hiking tent for remote stuff in the cold months, hennessey hammocks in the remote stuff in the warm months and swag and tarp.
I only have a simple swag, more like a big canvas sleeping bag rather than one that is all but a tent and it gets most of its use on the floor of friends houses, shearing sheds and on the camp stretcher under a tree when the weather suits.
They all have their place in the 90, trailer, backpack, or canoe repectively....
