Today I received my "fire pit" plus a few other goodies from "Drifta"...
so I'll have to add a chainsaw to my camping kit... and then it's time to get out there in the bush - after a long break from camping.
We're looking forward to it very much (my wife retires tomorrow )...
    cheers

Just on thew subject of battery powered chainsaws, a lot of people have reasonable size inverters nowadays electric chain saws are cheaper than battery powered. But that said I'm not giving up my Husky in a hurry.

Not often you get a 200 km extra detour to end up 30 km from where you ceased proceeding.

Gumnut, I don't leave home without my chainsaw (and a spare chain), I would like a $ for every tree I've cut blocking a road. I think the gist of what NPWS are saying is that they don't want you cutting up firewood in Nat. Parks, Regards Frank.

I mainly carry a chainsaw for safety reasons. Don't want to be cut off by a fallen tree on the track if I ever need to get out of the bush quickly due to an unexpected emergency.

I occassionally cut a bit of firewood also .

Had a look at the signs whilst in Bendethera this weekend, they prohibit the use of chainsaws to fell trees or their use for cutting firewood, doesn't say that the possession is illegal, but that specific use.
(Pretty sure that would apply to all NSW NPs)

Looks like I'd better sharpen and start carrying the great grandfather's two man cross cut saw

    Correct I did

To the best of my knowledge it used to be an offence to be in possession of a chainsaw in a NP (1995 regs). That rather draconian regulation has been removed, however it is still an offence to use a chainsaw certain ways (ie felling trees, cutting firewood etc), but not (at least my understanding) to carry a chainsaw.
I doubt there would be too much of an issue with using one to clear a fallen tree from across a track.

I raised the subject today at the NPWS stand at the 4WD show. They will check and reply to me.

Yes it does! Even taking fallen branches (bush fire fuel!) is prohibited. Thing is they have to see you taking it, wood is wood LOL. I have an old single bed converted to a roof rack on "Rangella" Have had an amazing amount of firewood: on top (thanks top the Sthil 660)
