We've had two Saul swags for about 10 years and they've survived lots of mistreatment, such as the boys taking them for sleeping on the beach while surfing and being chucked around in the bush. Ours cost about $250 each. They are basic, with a good thick mattress, but they are not domes like the more recent fancy ones.
Be fussy about the mattress and the quality of the canvas, screens and zips.
Once you get it home, zip it up, hang it up outside and hose it thoroughly to make the canvas swell and seal better. Then spray it with waterproofer.
I recommend you throw a plastic sheet under it on the ground to keep it clean and dry. You will become an expert at avoiding dips in the ground when camping outside.
We sometimes use ours for visitors to roll out on the loungeroom floor.
Darche seem to have a good reputation now. Anaconda also has a good range.
