My swag has pins that slip into the 'hoops' to secure it, means it can be set up in a tent, on the back of a ute, etc.
Works fine.

swags take up too much space, take too long to dry, and are heavy. get a single person ultralite tent with a single take down pole, a single air mattress with cigarette lighter plug in inflator, and a good sleeping bag. my tent rolls up 15cm x 40cm and can be used as a stand alone mozzie dome with out the fly. swags are good for looooong trips in one place only. just my humble opinion.
mick.
Anyone willing to post pics of theirs? Like Steve's stretcher tent compared to a swag for example :)
I am looking for a double swag for the xmas break. First I was looking into the ARB dom swag but it seems the first series had some issues. Also consider Jolly or Southern Cross.
Has someone an update on the ARB's?
Thank you.m
I use a Southern Cross tent if I'm with the kids, sometimes a $50 cheapie dome tent but the swag gets used if I'm travelling alone or with the Father-in-Law.
I got one swag from Rays Outdoors then had someone make a mirror image version. Allowed me to have one of the boys beside me and unzip & sort them out without getting out.
It's side entry, flywired and you can roll up the canvas either side. It needs some vents because it can get condensation inside. There is a short pole at each end and a guy rope (or you tie it to a tree or the Landy).
Sleep OK it it but as mentioned in an earlier post you wouldn't get dressed/undressed in it.

Hi Didge,
A couple of photo's of set ups I have tried:

This was a trial with the swag set up on a stretcher under the awning. OK except the dog wanted to join me, & not much room in a swag for me & the dog.

Fishing trip last May when a near cyclone blew in. The Oztent had to be stowed & the little Malamoo survived when tied down to 4 star pickets. A dry night but not a lot of sleep due to the wind.

If the weather is fine this is my favourite set up. The stretcher with an Aerobed inflatable mattress under the awning.
I am still looking for the perfect set up & my stepson believes the stretcher tents are the way to go. The Jet Bunker looks good & has had some good reviews as has the Oztrail stretcher tent.
Ideally a Roof Top Tent would be the go but way to heavy for my old 107" - if only someone made a single RTT about 1 mtr wide & weighing 10 - 15kgs!
Here be mine, I'll take some better photos later, I have to clean it anyway :p

Full zippable canvas and flyscreen covers on both sides, and vents at both ends with zippable flyscreens.
Fit me and SWMBO comfortably.
