    Esky decision

Am in the market for a new esky and was wondering if anyone has any experience of one of these?

Have seen other cheaper similar ones which really seem little better than the non insulated double wall coolers which are around.

For my purposes am looking to use for camping with a tent. It will not be moved from the tent once we are set up. Is to keep milk, drinks and butter etc cold for about 4 days.

That looks from the photo to be a cooler bag which might be OK for a day trip but not for a few days. There are lots of polyethylene eskies out there that should do the job for not a lot more than that one. I got a 60l one from a mob up at Caloundra a couple of years ago for $120 that I am very impressed with, but they won't beat a decent fibreglass esky.

Likewise, I think you'd be hard pressed to get a day out of a bag like that. 4 day propositions would require a proper fibreglass esky like the Evakool.

Thanks you have confirmed what I thought about the performance to be expected in real life.

    Whats your budget like?

The best Esky I have ever used was the simple polystyrene esky that the ship foods and things in. (In my case aquarium fish)

Ive got a few of theese and when i dont have space in the fridge i use them.

My uncle coverd one in fiberglass on the outside and then a protective thick paint/epoxy stuff on the inside it was tough as you would need and cost only as much as glassing the outside and the epoxy inside and worked a treat. may be worth looking at. . .

I got a techniice one. Used it on my trip from Darwin to Melbourne in December - held up well even in the 40+ degree heat around coober pedy. I got the signature series 60L. And just now I checked the website and they are doing half price shipping.

We have had an evakool around the 50L mark and it last really well. We have had it for about 10 years and got our moneys worth out of it already

Mate of mine has the same Techniice box as that, thing is great, weekend away last weekend, I had the 40L engle (38ltr really) and his 60L with ice let him hold the same amount of stuff, and his stayed cold fine, he was using big home made block ice though (frozen icecream containers fileld with water) and a bag of servo Ice. . .
I also took my styrene 'esky' the type i mentioned above, with 4 large freezer bricks (the re-useabl type) and after a day and a half sitting on the ground near my camp the freezer bricks were melted, but by this time there was room in the fridge for my remaining chilled items anyway. . . I think in that battle the Techniice won hands down
(granted mine was int eh sun half the day, his was inside his tent awning in full shade and he had 10 times the ice and had frozen his foods while mine was the 4 freezer blocks and 'chilled' items none frozen)
