i use a bedroll swag, 0 deg swagbag and have different liners from flanelette thru to silk.
too hot, sleep on top of swagbag in a liner to keep the critters at bay and on the bag for the comfort.
too cold, imbibe rum and sleep in bag and liner to suit...
can mix and match to suit pretty much anything and they don't take up much room.
can take some sorting depending on intoxication levels
I have about 4 different sleeping bags, all synthetic fill. All zipped, and only the lightest doesn't have a hood.
IME other considerations not already mentioned are:
A nylonish outer will have you sliding off a self inflating mat, even on the flat. A real PITA. Same bag will be fine on other surfaces.
The size of the bag is important.......... I've bought one to replace my favourite that got 'lost' on a work trip only to find it'e the narrow version and no good. Replaced with the XL version that can be used zipped, or unzipped; swag or tent, depending on temp.
Bags are really pretty cheap these days.
cheers, DL
Yep, cheap enough to have one for every season.
One thing i want to get is a couple of sleeping bag liners, i used one while back packing thru the middle east and europe and made a big difference in warm weather.
