    12 Volt Fridge Repair

Dose anyone know where i can take my 2 way 12/240 volt car fridge to be repaired around Sydney. It is an Ironman brand 50l and worked fine for years.

I turned it on again the other day and the thermostat was stuck on 45 degrees. So i set it to 3 degrees and it kept on cooling all the way to the camp. Still reading 45 on the top. Even though everything was frozen solid. Then the next day i got the E1 error. Which indicated low voltage to the fridge and it shut down.

So i plugged it into 240 Volts at home and the same thing with 45 degrees shown and then cutting out due to low voltage error.

Any ideas on where i can take it. Will a fridge repair shop know 12 volt fridges? I have heard that Auto Elecs can work on them as they deal with car aircons. But is that true or is there someone that specialises in it? I have sent an email off to Ironman and they are yet to respond.

From my dark distant memory,is the Ironman a Waeco clone??? If so you need a Waeco friendly repairer, they seem to fix Engel OR Waeco not both.

Alternate Gas Refrigeration in Arndell Park (Caravan Camping Marine & Rural Refrigeration) do repairs for Waeco and Engel etc so they're probably a good place to start.

an auto elec place will be able to but wont want to.

A tech repair place that works in air con and consumer electrical repair is your best bet.

from what you've said the most likely cause is going to be the temp sensor has failed and isnt giving the control circuit any info and thats sticking on full range.

The fact that the fridge is freezing stuff eliminates all of the refrigeration stuff. so it should be a simple controller repair.

    Good luck.

More than likely the controller sensor is faulty.
They are a cheap item, maybe worth trying to get one and replacing it first.

Or if you can, measure the resistance and see if you can get any tech support to find out wha t the resistance of the sensor should be.

    Good luck.
