    Running a CPAP on 12V ? / Using CPAP when camping ?

    I have a CPAP machine.

    It's only ever been run at home, but Id like to be able to take it camping if possible.

    (Both for my sake in getting decent sleep, and others sake re my not snoring)

    Has anyone got a CPAP and worked out a solution for running it when camping?

    No 12V cord with mine.

    Pretty sure this is the one - or very similar at any rate

    AC Power Consumption
    100 – 240V AC, 50/60Hz , 1.0A max
    Use a standard figure 8 power input.

    no mention of 12V so obviously has a built in transformer. Looking at the unit there is no 12V input evident either.

    I suppose this means the only real option is an inverter which would limit me to having to camp next to the truck, or have an extension cord (not ideal if it rains...) ?

    Seems silly going from 12V ->240V -> 12V but that's probably what happens...

    Any ideas? What do others do?

    You could always get a portable battery pack with inverter to place in your accomodations.

    I have a Resmed S9 machine that I bought a 12vdc-to-whatever-it-needs DC/DC adaptor for. For my previous machine, I made a 12v lead to suit.
    Just don't use the humidifier when running on batteries.

    I got a car adapter with my s10 from the dealer. Plugs into car power socket. Just ask your reamed agent for a car power adapter. They are available.
    Haven't used it yet so can't comment on power consumption

    Milton - it's only got an AC input though.

    Pete - do you have a dual battery setup that that was plugged into though?

    I only have the single battery so don't want to risk draining too much from the battery overnight.
    Mind you with max 1.0Amp draw that probably isn't going to be an issue, right?
    What inverter did you get? Cost?

    Tombie - yeah that too, but then I need to keep that battery charged somehow.

    For the last 12 years I've used the 2nd battery (with traxide kit) in the D3 & two D4's, a 10m 12v double insulated lead (fused protected at the car) into the tent, powering a bog standard inverter to power my Resmed machine. Never a drama.

    My original calcs:

    Resmed S8 Autoscore
    Watts = 21
    Volts = 12
    AMPS = 1.75
    Hours = 8
    AH = 14 per night.

    Ive got an old Fisher and Paykel cpap with humidifier and i run it on a 300w pure sinewave projecta inverter. I run my humidifier as normal on 1.5. I have 2x105ah d70z lead acid deep cycle batteries in parallel in my ffr perentie. I ran 2 fridges, 1 as a freezer. Both very old waeco 35ltr. It ran ok for 6 days at Melrose this year with solar charging the batteries during the day. No problems at all. My machine is 240v only, and is about 17yrs old. I was surprised as its the first time ive done this type of "free" camping.

    Cheers Rod

    Well it seems I'll need to get a spare battery setup. I already have a Traxide SC40 on a shelf somewhere (didn't install in previous car) but there's no way a 2nd battery will fit under the seat the way things are. And moving all the **** under there is beyond me.
