Tripods have three legs and they are stable.

Four legs don't work well on uneven ground

The Aldi/Kings ones are pretty thin, so may not hold much heat and require more wood.
    Ozpigs are good quality.
A relation who is a welder is experimenting with various designs right now. I have asked him to come up with a mini dismantable stove to take travelling. With the right design very little fuel is needed to make heat.

Although most of the time on dirt or sand it pups be pretty easy to have all four legs touching the ground

He made this monster smoker which weighs a tonne and obviously isn't portable, but now he's trying to miniaturise a design.

I have an oz pig and have always struggled to get much heat out of it. I’ve used all sorts of wood and heat beads. I’ve been told to ditch the spark arrestor at the top of the flue and get the door changed out to the one that has bigger air holes. Yet to test it under these conditions. The kids used it to cook up some eggs one day and they chocked the fire so I got the blower out. Got the fire going but blew the eggs off the hot plate! Ooops

Most of the time you’re right

Sadly it isn’t always so, as my mates son can show you

There seems to be a whole online community of people designing and building custom fire units.

Whoa! Very nice. Is that beautiful beast in your backyard Mick? My el-cheapo smoker is getting a bit rusty. Would love one of those! Nice big fire box too.
