Please enlighten me.
The engineering of a properly designed tripod for stability is well proven.
It sounds like your mate's son had a design problem, not a physics malfunction.

Objects become unstable when their centre of gravity falls outside of their base of support. This happens when a force is applied.
The larger the base of support, and the lower the centre of gravity, the more stable the object is against a force- for example, stacking wood into a stove or scrubbing a hotplate with a spatula.

Looks like a rocket ship. Made from a gas cylinder.

Note the bicycle frame welded to the back to make it easy to move.

in a perfect world, things go to plan

in the real world things don't always go that way. lots of variables

I can't go into too much detail as is subject to legal action and I would hate to hinder what is going on. google is way too efficient

A cautionary note from someone who knows. Taking heed.

Got Aussie pig. Had to get glue pipe bigger to make it breath. Three inch. Just brought a different type at Aldie. Lighter and should breath a lot better. More compact too

I had an OzPig for a couple of years. At first it was great, then over time 4 things started to **** me:
- it was too bulky to just throw in the back. It needs a box to cart it in because of the soot and the sharp edges cut through any bag over time. This makes it even bigger;
- most of the heat goes up unless you have the door open, so it’s not good for a crew to sit around. The two people in front of the door are right, but no one else;
- unless you are on the door side, there is limited ‘bush TV”
- putting the fire out was pretty messy, any water you pour in stays in and turns into a big black soup.

I sold mine and bought a snow peak fire pit. This was a bit expensive, but does a much better job, and solves all these problems.

Our 4WD club members have all of these.

Ozpigs are brilliant in the desert where wood and wind make ground fires a problem. Once the heat is in the cast, makes a good heater. What wood you use, and how is the answer.

Remember, more air in through door vents, means more heat up the flue. Hence Dampener to be used correctly.

4WDsupercentre steel unit has an external flange for the flue, problems with mounting space for me.

I have the ALDI steel unit, internal flange for flue. Gases / smoke can be trapped inside firebox, but a grate to allow air to the back of the box under the current flue, works a treat. Prone to ash build up, but so is the other unit.

Both units are almost identical in make, TRIPOD does work and is NO worse than Ozpig legs.

Spark arrester works well enough for me, and I don't think a straight out flue any better.
