Having had a Webber babyQ for a few years now and have been highly impressed with what I can cook on it So I decided to have a look at one of these Gasmate BBQ's as a cheap alternative.
I ordered one from 4WD Supercheap for only $99 and it arrived yesterday.
The BBQ comes in a box and you have to assemble it yourself which proved to be a PITA But after about 1/2hr I had it assembled.
My first impression is that the unit it quite "Flimsy" and I doubt that it will take the knocks and bumps that my old WebberQ has withstood, However it is much lighter than the WebberQ so it will be easier to handle.
I cooked a few chops and sausages on it and it worked well with plenty of room on the flatplate and grill and the cleanup was also very easy.
The unit has pizo lighter fitted to it and it uses a standard 9kg gas bottle so refill wont be a problem.
I have a few of the Gasmate single burner stoves that use the disposable gas canisters and although quite "Flimsy" I have found these to be surprisingly robust So I am hoping that this new BBQ will be the same, Time will tell.
I haven't used it as an oven yet But it does come with a thermometer fitted to the lid So it shouldn't be too hard to use and it is also a bit bigger than my Webber BabyQ so I may be able to cook a bigger roast in it.

As I haven't "Field Tested" this BBQ yet I am unable to give it a Full review But so far I am quite pleased with it and think that for less than $100 it appears to be good value for money and will be a useful bit of kit especially in areas that don't allow campfires or during fire bans.

I will be taking this on a 6-8 week fishing trip in the Pilberra area So it will get a pretty good workout and I will be able to evaluate it better then.
