Roof Top Tents - Any Tips

Two people would add maybe 150kg, but you're only up there when stationary, of course.
Roofs do flex, it can be surprising how much.
Defender gutters may have to be sealed with silicon to fill the cracks caused by flexing of the roof.

we have a Gordigear Explorer Plus RTT with a zip attachable tent which hangs below. It opens to the RHS of the car so I can still use my Rhino Batwing awning at the LHS and around the back of the car, giving us a huge undercover area.
The Plus size is bigger than a king size bed so there is plenty of room for bedding, clothing and even a “night pail” so we don’t have to get down in the night.
I believe they are an exceptionally well made tent using top quality materials, including zips and thread. They are an Australian company based based on the Gold Coast and the owners name is Helmut. He was very helpful when I was making my choice at his warehouse. There is a very good but quaint YouTube video about the tent.
I paid $2200 for the complete set when I bought it last October. The other thing worthy of note is his after sales service. He carries an extensive range of spare parts in stock and is able to ship stuff quickly, for example if you damage a cover and need to buy a replacement.
The only real (minor) difficulty we have is working around the Batwing awning when zipping it up at the forward end.
We love it.

We did Cairns to Adelaide via North West late last year. Took 4 months & 10,000km.
Bought a standard full length roof rack to suit the D2, then a relatively cheap soft RTT to suit.
We set it up to cover the barn door & with the annex, it was hot & dry.... we saw a little rain around Atherton.

For more senior citizen, it takes about 20 minutes, up,or down. great elevation & very comfortable bed.
We found that it could handle extra bedding, pillows, blankets with no problems.

Will need to modify (raise) the carport to permit RTT removal.
That's on the to do list after we return to Oz.
