90 Degree Adapter for Cigarette 12V Plug on Engel

    Hi All,

I have an Engel I run off a second battery (Thumper) but find the 12V plug on the fridge is fairly exposed to damage when set up in the car. The battery is usually set up near a door because its very heavy and preferred to be accessible when we stop.

I'd like to either cut off and replace the plug on the fridge with a 90 degree plug or get a 90 degree adapter if available. If its easy enough I'd replace the plug otherwise make do with the adapter.

Any one done either 'mods' or know where to get an adapter?

I had similar problems until I ditched the cigarette plug and fitted an Anderson plug, so now no more problems. Can you fit an Anderson plug to the Thumper?

Never seen an angle adapter for the fridge,i would email Engle and ask.

I have our fridge the other way around so the cable enters the fridge near the cargo barrier,so is sort of out the way.Second battery is under bonnet.

I use Merit plugs only for the other end,and angle merit plugs are available.

The Merit is 100% better than a cigarette plug,it makes a firm contact.

Ditch the cigarette plug/socket before it gives you issues out in the middle of no where.

    Edit,what about this?Doesnt look correct,but it maybe?

Thinking exactly the same thing over Xmas

Thinking of leaving the plug but pinching the wire to put in one of these above and out of the way.

My fridge hits the existing pug if it moves at all of loaded close the the power plug in the back of my D3. I mostly put fridge on the opposite side to the plug but still do not like it as baggage and other items make it a exposed position if loaded as we often are

One of theses Metit connectors might get into my car tomorrow.

    Some confusion here.

So is the OP talking about the plug on the fridge or the plug on the Thumper?

I presumed he was talking about plug on fridge?

Does the OP mean something like this plug/lead?

    Engel lead on ebay.

Note that places like BCF also have them(holding stock is another question tho), and they are somehwat expensive there too .. $50-80 or so.

As I remember, Engel have used plug types on their fridges, so there will be different plug types depending on model.
Mate had a similar issue, not knowing the fridge model he has, he got a recent plug/lead, but was different to what his fridge needed.

So OP needs to know the model of fridge he has first.

Fridge plugs are right angle already.

Maybe OPs isn't, hence why the question.
He does talk about the "plug on the fridge", and not the lead coming from the fridge or something.
That is, the way it's worded, sounds like the fridge end of the lead is the issue.

If the Thumper has an Anderson plug end, then as Trout said, this would be more ideal for the battery end. This way it also leaves more 12v plug sources for more iPhones and stuff.
But on the flip side, if it does have an anderson plug, and say it's use is for top up either from car/solar, then you'd need to add another one to the system ... a bit much mucking about.
