Appearances are deceptive. It is actually a split system and inside the head unit is mounted on the top centre of the passenger side wall. The unit is an Air Command Heron 3Q.
I was a bit surprised to find that it handled the 40 deg days well, with even with the roof up. The fan was a bit noisy though keeping up at that temp ;)

We have an Air Command Heron in our van,, it is VERY effective,, even 20 years after installation,, I got that invoice of purchase (amongst all the other invoices) when we bought the van. I think its just out of warranty----- ;)

Indeed Aircond and caravan is soft but I like to be comfortable:D
Its nice to have options though and below is my "intermediate" option, using the off road trailer, tarps and poles. My "basic" option is a tarp off the vehicle and swag on the ground (Pics are earlier in this thread).

new el budgetto camper.
will get some full setup pics soon as we are doing a shakedown trip from brisbane to port macquarie via inland nsw for a few days.
its a home made cheapie, only wieghs about 250kgs which i like, although no water tank. old mates first attempt and not too bad a job either. first thing of interest though is the slide out kitchen on wrong side :/ not sure if i will worry about changing it or not.
it looks tiny from outside, but i assure it's even tinier inside, lol
actually has a decent amount of storage, full double bed mattress and lift up underbed storage.
bought it 2 weeks back. inverted the axle to under the spring so it sits level behind D2, then had a week off with rain and floods etc. then last week extended the draw bar so rear door on D2 will swing open and not hit the front of trailer.

Rosscoe, i reckon that would be pretty easy to swap the slide out kitchen to the otherside.
Here's what we have sort of ended up with. Been out a few times with this now, including 10 nights over to Melrose and back, and it is working well. Can set the whole thing up in 45 minutes including the awning, and about half an hour to pack up. If we are only staying somewhere one night, then we don't use the awning, and cook from the tailgate of the Rangie.:)
