engel......electronics adivce needed
the little battery used to power the temp display only lasts for a year or so, maybe a little longer
i need to change it again and the problem is its a pain in the ass with my setup up
two options i thought
1. install a switch so i can turn off the led display when the fridge is off i.e. saving the batery but it will still need replacing or
2. by-pass the battery, but how does one easliy drop 12V down to 3V (from memory), this would mean no more batteries and when i turn the fridge on the led display will power up

Hi Kelvin,
Apparently the problem with the battery (LR44) is the 'shelf life'. If the battery has been sitting in the shop for ages its likely half-dead when you buy it.
My second battery hardly lasted 6 months. From now on I'll be buying them from a jewellers as they are always turning stock over.
I don't believe the temperature unit itself draws much current to speak of. The LR44 is 1.5 volt alkaline battery, so don't kill your unit by supplying 3 volts!
You could try an SR44 which is the same size, same voltage, but silver oxide and therefore higher energy density(potentially lasting longer)
