Just curious, but I'd never thought to use a shovel to cook on. Is this something that is commonly done down there? Interesting....

You're making me hungry now....:lol2:
Having been a plumber and drainer in a past life the best shovel you could buy was a Rigid long handle. They aren't cheap but they are excellent to use, are very strong, don't weight much and last ages.
I've seen food cooked on them many times, a fav was bacon and eggs first thing in the morning all mixed in together once the bacon was browned. Tasted delish. Steak and eggs was another good meal.
I remember the old Maori blokes at the Auckland Gas Company could cook nearly anything on one. Mind you it was one they kept specifically for cooking, you wouldn't want to cook on a shovel that had been repeatedly used in gas soaked earth, trust me it wouldn't taste good no matter how you cleaned it.
I have a cut down Rigid shovel cable tied to the cargo barrier so it fits in and can't cause any problems in a crash, have no intention of cooking on it though as it was used for digging up blocked sewerage pipes some fifteen odd years ago when I last did plumbing.
By the way a Rigid shovel isn't stainlass but really I'm not sure why you would need a stainless shovel?
Cheers,
Terry

It's a real invention from South Africa called "The Original Double Shovel".
It sells for R800 which is about $120 Aussie.

I bouhgt a SS shovel from the local hardware store. They don't usually carry them but they had a few there when I was browsing so I bought one. Try asking at whatever hardware stores you pass. Someone may get one ordered in for you.
