You were there the first time I tried to use mine.....don't know if you can remember me and Harry going at it for ages.....till we saw Captn Rightfoot and he showed the way ;). Be interesed to see how the other fuel goes...so far no probs with unleaded.....plus as I have a Coleman Dual Fuel lantern.......very easy to take some unleaded in a small 5 litre container.Quote:

You will find it will burn almost any liquid fuel, Shellite being a brand name you can buy alternatives from other companies, for example years ago bought BP White spirit burnt as well as was cheaper.
Petrol burns slightly smokier than Shellite
Any parts for Coleman you can easily get from Sands in Melbourne
I have the Coleman Duel burner stove, the single burner and two of the lanterns as well as the collapsable oven. All of it works great and has had extensive use over many years.
I have heard that the collapsable ovens are no longer being made, I asked at the local camping shop (Rays Tent City ) so as to get one for a mate.
The ovens work well have cooked damper, roasts even muffins. Get one if you can!
I had a similar prob with the stove after a rough trip and somehow must have bent something a mm or two, the tube from the tank was buring fuel before the actual burner.
A little bit of gentle adjusting of the tank where it hangs and the case so the the fuel tube is inserted a little deeper into the burner fixed it.
Its not hard to bend the two lugs that attatch the fuel tank to the case, a bit of hard pumping can easily bend them down and result in the fuel tubemoving slightly out of the burner, this allows fuel to escape and burn where it should not.
Have careful look and see ifyou can bend the two lugs up a fraction, so the tube goes into the burner a bit deeper. Only needs a mm or two to fix.

No, it burns unleaded petrol and shellite, or coleman branded fuel.Quote:

I had the whole thing apart today to treat/paint a couple of rust areas where it had got wet in the previous owner's shed.
When I put it back together I used the bit of clearance in the mounting holes for the manifold to get it aligned a bit better, and seems fine now.
There were witness marks showing that the manifold had moved slightly so maybe its had a heavy knock in the past.
I saw the collapsible ovens in the Geelong Anaconda store last weekend. They seemed to have plenty of stock.
I've already got a good spun steel camp oven, so will probably stick with that for now.
I also picked up a spare generator for the stove at Rays Outdoors today. They had them for almost half price in their surplus shop. Nothing wrong with mine, but couldn't pass up a cheap spare to stick in the cupboard.
Looks like you've got a nice collection of the Coleman dual fuel stuff there. I think I'll keep a lookout for one of the lanterns next. We camped with friends of ours from Sydney a few years back and they had one - they certainly give out lots of light.

Mine is about 15 years old now, and purchased it after using my grandfathers one he purchased after WW II. His was about 40 years old when I used it, and still going strong. Good reccommendation!! I used mine as my primary stove when doing a reno, (almost a year) and used unleaded to minimize costs. Ended up clogging up the Jet, and had to buy a new one. See other post of "Coleman stove Repaired". I now use shellite when possible. It is also suggested that when not in use, relieve the pressure in the tank, as the seals are not the best, and will leak while under pressure.
Enjoy many happy years of cooking on it.

I forgot to mention do not ever get tempted to clean the stove with oven cleaner, Mine came back really greasy so I thought spray on oven cleaner and rinse off! Got the grease off as well as all the brown paint and I had to repaint it. (Teach me to be Lazy?)
As for the lanterns The small one is nearly 30 years old and believe it or not has only gone through 5 mantles to date. I have the solid plastic cases and store them carefully in an upright position.
I use unleaded most of the time but every so often run shellite or colman fuel and so far have had no trouble.

Love the Coleman oven idea!! Not seen it in England so had to buy a Cobb bbq for oven duties. Have used my Coleman double on unleaded car fuel only for about 10yrs, sometimes have a problem where the flame wont go from fiery yellow to controlled blue but it eventually seems to settle down. Was a bit erratic in 6k ft mountains in Morocco, took gas the second time, will be taking the Coleman next year.................
The Coleman lantern is also ripper, hardly seems to use any fuel.
The place where you got spare generators and ovens - any chance you could find me a website? This kit is well worth spending money on shipping
