I also don't think much of the plastic fittings/hinges/connectors used on some of the rather expensive commercial awnings available - can't see them lasting very long. I've been thinking about making up (sewing) an awning or two for occasional use on the D2 side and rear to use with a full length alloy rack mounted on 4 HD Rhino bars. Plan on having them removable and attached by sail-track mounted to the Rhino bars. I have a heavy canvas tarp and poles that I have used previously as a trial but was thinking of using poly/cotton material similar to that used on the current model oztents. Where can you buy that type of material?

I have a Fiamma Caravanstore awning Fiamma SpA - Products - some plastic hinge pins broke the first time it was used (at Cooma in 2008). I still haven't got around to getting replacement parts.

As it has support legs, it not quite as friendly as a self-supporting awning.
