Looking for Bicycle Carrier options
G'day all,
I've got a 130 with a pretty long tray and a Trayon camper on it. And I'm looking for something that will allow me to carry two mountain bikes along on my trips. I've pretty much gone through the following options, and found them more or less unpractical or unworkable:
A. Tow-ball mount. Don't think they'd handle even gentle off-roading too well, let alone a couple of hundred Ks of corrugations. Besides, I don't have a tow bar, primarily because the tray hangs over a fair bit (the pic makes it look worse than it is, but still), and I wasn't planning on towing anything.
B. Roof-mount (on the truck). Space already occupied by spare tires and kayak.
C. Fiama "Carry Bike" mount (or the like) on the rear of the camper. Unworkable, since there's no real structure behind the thin fibreglass skin.
So I think I'm down to mounting something onto the tray (preferrably from underneath) that will make the bikes sit up against the rear of the camper like with a tow-ball mount. I've done a fair bit of searching and have't come across anything off the shelf, so looks like I might need to talk to an engineering shop to have something made up.
Any thoughs/ideas/solutions appreciated!

Throw away thoughts
Would the roof of the camper take them? one point to keep in mind is all the dust on a gravel road will be up the back of your camper and will cover your bikes if you make a mount for them at the back. You can get soft sided and solid plastic bike bags/ boxes. You need to take the wheels off to get them in but at least you will not be spending time cleaning all the road dirt out of your cluster and chain and I wonder if the bike boxes could be laid on top of your camper?
Happy travel

is there space inside the closed camper if you removed the front wheels?? or do you put chairs etc in the entryway?
alternatively you could use a piece of channel in a way similar to that done on the LRPV's for motorbikes... I've seen similar on motor homes too...

You could give this guy a try,
RoscoMTB
Pretty sure he can build them to suit and may be able to come up with something. A bit of a hike to Muswelbrook but a couple of photo's and emails would go a long way to sorting it out.
Otherwise there is Gripsport in Melbourne that may be able to do something.

Thanks jaseh, I think that RoscoMTB carrier might do the trick if it can be bolted to the tray rather than a towbar, which looks like it can.
And thanks guys. Inside the camper isn't enough room, and on the roof of the camper, while feasible, would be unpractical, since I'd have to remove the bikes every time I open the camper (the roof 'flips' open). And I definitely keep some sort of protective/storage bag in mind.
