Buying a Waeco

The Evakool rectifier 240vAC to 12 V DC is heaps better than the Waeco which have plastic body.
If you get the Waeco fridge then get the Evakool rectifier ;);)

That's right. IMHO Engel has the worst insulation, but the most efficient motor. If you wanted a killer fridge, you'd buy an engel and shove the guts into an evakool esky!

I got a 39L engel on ebay for $350 Buy It Now price, it needed a new latch $6.50 and litterally 30seconds to screw it on. With the money saved and the fact that it was the old style top I got a Two zone for it bringing it up to 59L, thermal bag for both the fridge and two zone , plus a dual battery, red arc solenoid and marine grade lighter sockets through the car to run it.

All up $710. The fridge is 12yrs old but had just been serviced and gased. I have seen 40yr old dinged and scratched Engels still going strong.

The Evakool uses a Danfoss Compressor which is different to the Engel Sawafuji Swing motor even though both claim to work on an angle of 30 degrees.

Engel....Mine is a little 29L job and is 30 years old.Never missed a beat, never had a part replaced, never been serviced,never let me down.Been around Oz 3 times, did some hard yards in the Kimberley too.It ain't pretty any more but still works like the day my Father bought it.:)

Fridges is fridges is fridges. I dont have a Waeco, and am not getting into the "what is best" arguments. Suffice to say, my experience with aquaintances who do have Waeco's is that most of their problems relate to wiring issues. ie the standard power supply that people tend to use, is not up to the job. That is easily fixed by upgrading the wiring and usually results in problems going away.

And as has been said, Engel use the Sawafuji swing motor, which is exclusive to their fridges. Most of the others use Danfoss.
