    Over heating sounds familar

Hi everyone glad to be aboard.
    1.
I've owned a '82 RR manual 4 door 5 speed for many years.
It's never overheated but got close to it, specially in summer.
I have had the engine and drive train overhauled recently and everything cleaned out. No aircon standard thermal fan and 4 core radiator.
I,ve added LPG gas and the temp remains the same although on hills it does get a little hotter.
As I've put up with this for many years, my wife doesn't want to as it gets hot in the cabin (from the engine)
Has anyone got a solution to this problem and yes I want to keep both of them.
The RR runs standard 3.11 diffs and rolls on 31's BFG with 4" lift. Just great for getting up the back paddocks.
    2.
I'm looking for an under drive dont mind if S/H

    Kindest Regards

    Welcome to you 2

I think you answered your own question ..... Get rid of the "standard" thermo fan .... You will need a better setup than that, if you want thermo fans to do the job properly ....

Install a standard Rover fan with a cowling, to see the difference

By the way ... Where's Windsor??

    Cheers
    Mike

Standard diff ratio is 3.54 to 1.

    Welcome,
A few things from my small amount of Rangie experience,

The 82....... The temperature gauge may not be very accurate due to the dodgy electrics found on the pre P11 models.
Most of your cabin heat problems will be the tin heater box felt seals leaking as the hot water circulates through them all the time. (no heater tap)
In effect the heater stays on all the time, so if any air leaks through from that lovely air ram above the bonnet, you get the idea

An easy fix is to bypass the heater core during summer by intercepting the heater hoses with Tee pieces and taps.
Also make sure all the rubber grommets are still good in the fire wall/bulkhead. Some silicon etc will fix this.

The other source of heat may be the engine pipe being close to the floor. Make a heat sheld.

As Mike pointed out, Ford thermo fans work well on a Rangie. Also if yours has the viscous fan, check it wile hot. Give it a rev then turn it off. The fan should stop instantly. Not free wheel.

The standard diffs are 3.54 and should be plenty low enough with 31's
Why would you need lower anyway? They cope OK up to 33's

    Tony.

    Getting Hot

    Thankyou

I will have a closer look at all those things that you have mentioned including the fan and exhaust. I will read the manual closer on diff ratios.

I have an 86 model with the 3.5 V8. Came factory with the twin thermofans infront of the radiator and a big fan behind it, have had no problems with overheating the engine at all, though I do have the problem with heat in the cabin! (Thats because I need to get a new boot for my stubby (CDL??) stick. :P

If you can, try to get a twin thermo-fan setup off a later model Rangie,

    Hope that helps,
    Nick

Also many mechanics do not replace the transmission tunnel properly when they overhaul the trans, as it is a bugger to get at the front screws.

Lots of silastic in the gaps helps with both the noise and heat.

the fans in front of the rad are for the aircon condenser, not engine cooling.

...Oops? I read somewhere that they were thermo fans???

Ah well, either way I have never gotten my rangie to halfway on the temperature gauge. It usually sits at just over a third of the way towards the center on the cold side.

& The fans only seem to kick in at 2500-3000+ revs.
