iv read about this to, and its happning to alot of potrol and toyota lockers, but then witch is the biggest market for them?? them 2 cars;);)
i have a new locker and iv only had probs with air leaking sometimes but not very often and never let me down, abr said if it gets that bad the locker disengages we will look at it, they have a good warranty sys apparently,
im just going to keep going till it brakes, and if it dose ima tellem i said so:mad::mad:
but come tax time i will deffnetly buying a front air locker:D
What pushed me towards an alternative to the air lockers was after talking with staff at their head office in Kilsyth and explaining that i wanted to fit Hy tuff axles, new CW&Ps as I wanted to change the ratios, ashcroft or KAM CVs I was told that I would have warranty issues if I fit the lockers myself with those parts.
When I said that was OK and I will pay them to fit them and while their at it can they tell me how much more it will be to have the up rated axles, CWs & CVs fitted at the same time (which I would supply and all parts were brand new).
The response then was we will not fit the parts due to warranty reasons and if I fit them (axles,CWs &CVs) later on I would void the warranty if something was to happen to the lockers.:(
I figured for the sort of money I was going to spend I didnt want to run the risk of having warranty issues down the track. I thought with what there telling me now I wont have a hope in hell on getting warranty if need later on.
The warranty issues and not being keen on the way the air line runs over the CW on the RD128 was what swayed me to go with an alternative which was KAM.
I didnt know they had them made by another company (I always thought they were made at there factory at Kilsyth) and didnt know some were having other problems (not only air leaks).
The air lockers (RD56s) that I used to run were fine (other than air leaks) and did what they were supposed to do with no problems as have the KAMs.
Cheers:D
that sounds a bit lame,
so there is no waranty on the lockers if you decide to fit different ratio ring and pinion's ?
or break a shaft and want to fit uprated ones ?
I thought one of the advantages of KAM's new locker was you are able to fit it with any 24 spline shaft ? in fact this is stated on their web site, quote 'use any 24 spline halfshaft'

Thats why I went with the KAM lockers & not the air lockers. A*B didnt want to know about me fitting the upgraded parts and wouldnt fit them for me. As they had stated it was due to warranty & them providing one with up graded axles CWs & CVs fitted. Thats why I DIDNT fit air lockers and went with KAM. LRA fitted the KAM lockers along with all the other parts no problem, and THEY HAVE NO PROBLEM IN REGARD TO WARRANTY with the up graded parts fitted.
Thats why I fitted the KAM and NOT the A*B air lockers. As mentioned before the KAM lockers have been great with no problems.
Cheers Gavin
Seems like a good enough reason to go with the KAM's to me considering I have the Maxi drive 24SP axles - I wonder if ARB would say no anyway since I have them??
Before my choice is made - any other options I should look at??
Also with the KAM's can you use them in a "ON \ OFF" fasion like the air ones??
McNamara? aka Jmac??
Well I did some ringing today... LRA want approx 2,500 each end to do the job... 5k ish - I mentioned I was going to get them to do the ody lift & if there was any movement in the price if I got it all done at once... answer was no.
I mean come on... 5k + for both - hell he even said to add another 2 ~ 300 on to be safe, so over 2.5k each end. Are they really worth it when I still have to upgrade CV's???
I also rang ARB & spoke with "Ben" whom I am sure I spoke with when I have been there & straight out asked if they have had any change in supplier parts for their diff setup's at all in the last 6 months & if they would have any issue installing them with Maxi drive axles & if there was any issue with warranty if I upgraded the CV's after the install - answer to all was no - I pulled him back up on it & asked about 3 times if he was sure about that with no bulls#it! & again he confirmed & said no.
ARB were talking about 1500 per end plus the aircompressor.. 3k leaves me cash to do the body lift & I would do one end at a time anyway.
so now I am all confused - thoughts???
