You're kidding! I've given up comprehensive insurance for our '93 Disco. Was near impossible to find anything under $700. Decent area, spotless driving record, no claims, 33 years old (which should be out of the punitive age bracket).

    That was a good deal,

NRMA NSW would charge me $750

agreed value was 4300 on a '87 low line and $600 excess.

    might be my age... 55+

4wd, the usual, any track on a map and no 4wd parks i believe

wife's 2002 sirion with $5.4k agreed was twice the price or thereabouts

one tip i picked up was use street address, not postcode, when quoting where garaged, that saved me 60 odd hurty ones from memory.

    Hi Inc,

Did you try Shannons? You would surely qualify as an enthusiast and they might want to do ads on the forum. PM being sent.

    cheers, DL

I tried Shannons and couldn't believe the total twang factor of the... ehem... "owner/operator" on the other end of the phone. If the call lasted 20 minutes, 10 of that was him trying to be my friend while establishing that I was an enthusiast. At one point, having told him I had motorcycles, he refused to proceed with taking the details of the vehicle to be insured (the Disco) until I told him precisely what motorcycles I had! I queried what business it was of his and he smugly said, "if I'm not convinced you are an enthusiast we can't cover you".

After all the fuss and bother, comprehensive was more expensive than 3 other quotes for a lower value, and TPP was more expensive by 10% too.

They do get 10 points from me for the most ridiculous approach to softening the blow of what for me will always be a grudge spend. If it's that hard to get them to take my money, I can't imagine what it's like attempting to gain a payout on a claim.
