    Question What is it for...

While replaceing the fuel tank on my 85 RRC.
Was replaceing the vent pipe as it was torn through.
Took the filler neck out and noticed a pipe come out the top and connecting to something that felt like a little tank.
But its sandwitched between the out shell and inner above the rear wheel arch drivers side.
I put it all back together and connected all the pipes.
Put fuel in and no leaks so job well done.

But what is the little tank for???

Can anybody enlighten me, also how do you access it as it rattles against the side of the car and on a 26 year old car its the only rattle, it annoying.

its an expansion tank and is part of your emmission controls. it basically catches vapour form the tank and provides a place for the fuel to expand into when the tank is full. It should have a porous filling in the form of an activated charcoal sponge in it.

    Cheers for the info.
That is the smell i got when i took the pipe of, puzzled me as it did not smell like petrol.
Now to stop it from rattleing against the side of the car.
Expanding foam sounds like a good idea as it hard to get to.

    Cheers for the advise.
