    LT95 oil leak

Short question. Bring on the lengthy answers (short ones welcome as well).

I have a LT95 gearbox (I think). Oil has been leaking from the front output shaft seal. I was going to replace the seal and perhaps put a speedie sleeve on the shaft.
Is this all I need to do or are there other things I should consider whilst I am attempting this repair?

    Thanking you all in advance
    regards
    Mick

nope that'll do it although you may not need to speedy sleeve it spin it up in a lathe or a home made varient there of (long 12mm bolt some nuts, washers and a socket to take up the slack and a low speed hand drill) wet'n'dry it to clean up the surface and you may find with a slight "mispositioning" of the seal the existing running surface may just get you out of trouble for a few years yet.

I would suggest that you look at the rear one at the same time.

If you find the flange is badly scored and you do need to sleeve it, don't forget to clean thoroughly with solvent and fill the groove with some sort of epoxy metal and file smooth before fitting the sleeve. The sleeves are very thin and will fail prematurely unless this is done.

With the LT95 you often find that the oil pump cover is warped it looks like its coming from the input shaft but it isnt.
Take the cover off and put it on a piece of glass with some wet and dry and make sure its flat, the last time mine was done it had a 30 thou warp.
They are such a heavy unit to get out you dont want to pull it 3 times like I did.

The trick I use is silicone between the washer and the flange, I do this on diff pinions as well, always works!

just get a new drive flange, the frount ones are the same as a RR but the back one is difrent. you my fined that there is a bit of movement on the spigot wich may defet a new seal, with or with out a speedy sleve.

    Thankyou for the suggestion.
    Background info:
I posted this in the RRC forum as the enquiry was concerning my SIII Stage 1 hybrid which has a 1981 RRC chassis and running gear. The front and rear flanges are exactly the same as a RRC. The list price I was quoted of a genuine was in the order of $600 (I shall pause here so you can get up from the floor and back in the seat) and the list price I was quoted of a non-genuine was in the order of $200.
How much is that speedie sleeve?
The seal was a few dollars. My output shaft may be OK or it may not. I just want to be prepared on the day.
What do I need to tell the young, spotty sales person (who thinks a speedie sleeve is a detachable hoodie arm) to get the correct part.

    regards

Mick, Wait until you pull it apart. Usually it is just the seal that is stuffed as the originals are a single lipped seal. Rarely do the drive flanges need replacing. Do you have the part number for the later double lipped seal? It is FTC5258
