Yes, Vicroads can be very picky. If the vehicle was registered in Victoria previously, you can do a priliminary check using the rego number on the Vicroads website. It will tell you if the vehicle has been written off, or if there is any finance owing on it. Check out VicRoads: Vehicle Status Checks

Not all vehicles come up on it, particulaly if they haven't been registered for some time, but it may help put you mind at rest until you get there.

That plate, is it an aluminium one in the engine bay, probably on the left side, it would probably read: this vehicle was manufactured by JRA Aust to comply with ADRs ****** then it will have the Vin No,(SALLHAML3(auto)7(5spd M) DA then No****** date of manufacture 6/87 or what ever,number of seats (5),THAT is your ADR plate :D which Vic Roads will have a list of from it's previous registration,you can not register a vehicle if it has not got an ADR plate unless it is a private import that is handled differently

Yeah, that was the number that we were trying to give VicRoads and they kept saying it was wrong. :mad:
It was only after I gave them the reg number that was written on the key fob that they would accept it.

Aaaaarrrrgh I am pulling out my hair LOL
I fought electrical gremlins yesterday- wouldn't restart when hot, wasn't vapour locking, just wouldn't start- traced it to the coil.
Now today I get the idle right but she still dies going into gear. If I give it a little bump on the idle then it doesn't die, but the idle is way too high.

What would make it do that?

VicRoads were fine, went in & she couldn't find the chassis number on the database but she did find the engine number and then changed it all to match.

Came out, looked at the compliance plate. the engine number & the chassis number stamped into the frame (which we had cleaned with some sandpaper, so it was nicely visable), went back in & she relieved me of $720 :o and gave me plates. Well chuffed!

Now I have to fix my crappy idle problem.

The idle problem should be easy after dealing with Vicroads...:D At least you can get out and about in it now. If you are around on the weekend, let me know, I would like to have a look at the beast if you are around.

The TPS will do this if it is worn out ... check it via a multi meter for its rise and fall of voltage as you open & close the throttle

Hi Mike, Thanks for that but actually I have already checked voltages at the TPS, looked good although be easier to check the sweep with an analogue meter rather than my cheap digital one.
