I've seen a rebuild kit for these autos on ebay for $212US. Perhaps a local auto repair shop could fit this for you. just a thought

I ripped out my 3 speed auto in the 1981 two door and replaced it with a R380/LT230. Coopers did the whole thing for around $3K.
Goes beaut especially with 5th on the highway.
I have to admit this is something I was also wondering about & how much it would cost. MMmm, future upgrade maybe? :) Cheers for starting the thread
Funny you mention that, my 89 Vogue did this til I had it serviced, after that no problem. My ZF auto has about 303K on the clock as well but was told that it was in good order when they serviced it. I also had the kickdown cable replaced at the same time as the previous owner had a aftermarket throttle body fitted but the kickdown had not been refitted  (this frankenstein fitment has well and truly gone, keep it standard it'sd a gutless 3.5 anyway ).
I personally wouldn't go back to a manual but I'm a lazy ***** I hate changing gears. The LT77 doesn't have the best reputation but after owning one for a while they're not all that bad although I'm still not a fan of where reverse is in the bloody thing :(

Hi,
My Rangie has done 144000 miles and probably only the last 5 years have been harder 4wding, prior to that it was an old blokes pride & joy, he brought it from the UK with him & kept all the receipts.
I have asked about a service and was warned that it may help and also may not drive back off the hoist ??
Not sure which way to go but i might change the oil at home & see what happens, if it stuffs it then at least my decision is made !!
I just want it to make it to the LR sow & back first !!
Cheers Sean
