I would think it would be better to export and reimport your box to Ashcroft in the UK. Rebuild is GBP 675 ie about $1300 plus freight or should be say 2 to 2.5 K all up. Or you could just do the exchange bit and pay GST etc and it probably would still be cheaper than local.

“Goods Exported in Passenger Baggage”) must be entered for export if the
value of the goods in the consignment is more than AUD$2,000.
