just a guess more than anything as you have no replies I'd guess at a fuel pump issue?

i would say the fuel in the carbs has evaporated whilst standing , just run the fuel pump for a few secs before turning the motor over , try it and see what happens

Mine had a similar issue about 6 months ago - just before I got it off the father in law. It ended up being something wrong with the Stommy carbies, but not sure what - it was running like a bag of s**t as well. He had them looked at - it seems by someone who knew what they were doing, as it has been fine since. I will be doing what others have done when they play up again, and replace them with SU's - I'm still on the lookout for a pair if anyone has a pair to get rid of...
If you need to contact me please email homestarrunnerau@gmail.com - thanks - Gav.

Does it have an electronic distributor if so I would check the module (pour some water over it and see if it will start) .I had a similar problem years ago

    G'day land_do

I would first try not pumping the throttle pedal, as you may be flooding it,also check if the oil levels in the dash pots in the carbs are the same, if it has a high voltage coil fitted it will heat up the ign module, mine had a crook coil which I replaced with a Bosch GT40R and the module got very hot, went and got a genuine Lucas coil to suit and the module runs cool.

    cheers

    G`day ,

i`d suggest , most likely it is flooding , from your description .

The float levels or only 1 level may maybe high for whatever reason or 1 or both needles/seats may be dirty , another would be high fuel pressure also dirty aircleaner elements could be the cause .

The choke is on the left carb , i`d suggest checking it`s turning off fully as it too could be the cause .

If the engine isn`t turning over pumping the pedal will have no effect , all it`s doing is opening the butterflys .

    Cheers
    Peter
