Auto box - no reverse - ball missing

    Hi all,

I have seen a 1992 Range rover for sale. The person states this....

BAD POINT IS THAT REVEARSE HAS STOPED WORKING THE KICKDOWN CABLE CAME LOOSE SO I FIXED THET AND THEN I HAD NO REVEARSE.

    I asked him this..

Did reverse work ok prior to making adjustments.
    does it drive ok?

    He has repplied.....

i know what is wrong with it when i pulled it aprt a little platic ball came and and i did not know where it came from but now i know it was a valve for the reverse the other gears work fine

i do not kno much about these boxes. Is this likely to be a easy repair or is a box out and strip.

    cheers

    Chilly

It has been admitted that someone fiddled with the pan off the Auto and was mucking about inside the box

Your biddin $ approach should be ... for the cost of a replacement gearbox

    Cheers

Yes, that plastic ball can be replaced, it is however between the valve body halves, so goodness knows WHY he split the valve body to remove/ refit a kickdown cable...you only have to take it off as a unit, nothing falls out, and refit it. About an hour and a half job. There are also several OTHER restrictors and washers etc that also fall out if you split the valve body... They are probably still on the floor

Theoretically, it should be OK, BUT there are other reasons for the problem, sprag broken, excessive clutch clearances, low line pressure etc etc.

I'd be careful about repairing it, PM me if you need to discuss further?

The Range Rover L322 4.4.TTDV8 ....probably won't bother with the remap..😈
