Don't know whether they still stock them..but I got an aluminium tailgate kit from Graeme Coopers about 8/9 years ago!!
Wasn't a difficult job just scary getting the glass out of the old one in one piece. It still looks brand new....

The MD tailgate upper is very nice, and worth whatever it costs. (do MR still make them?).

Thank you so much for all your valuable input.
I'm being over cautious with the tailgate issue as I would be doing the tailgate swap/renew over the weekend and outside on the street, and can't afford not being able to close/lock the vehicle or finish the job because I'm missing some parts.

The candidates are or the Allmakes/rangerovertailgates/simmonites one (it's the same thing) or the Famous Four one.

In theory I prefer the famous four one as it's one piece so would be more rigid and esaier to assemble. But does not seem to come with any related fixtures/fittings and even the seller did not tell me what bits I would need.

I will keep you posted about my progress because something should be done ASAP (tailgate wise)

    Best regards and thank you
    Robert

Robert My understanding is you use all the fittings off your old tailgate

I just visited a local auto window repairer and he said that he only recommends to use a polyeurothane glass sealant. So with this I think I might just get him to quickly seal it up for me.

If your tailgate was like mine, the old fittings are no good as it's either rusted or very tatty.

Thanks so much for your replies
I have emailed famous four to see if they can send me the fittings (rivets, bolts, nuts and associated hardware)

My tailgate is quite goo d from outside, but once you open it some pieces of rusty metal fall into the ground. All bolts nearly will have to be drilled.

I remember there was a "how-to" very comprehensive, in Land Rover Enthusiast Magazine. Will have to research it to see if I can find it.

    Best regards

    Robert

MR is going back into production as of 1/2/11. I ordered one from them, but don't expect to see it for up to 8 weeks.

I took my frame and glass today to Novus, and they didn't want to do the job would you believe. Said they hadn't seen anything like it before and it would need a rubber surround for the glass which they don't have that size. They didn't want to use the polyeurothane either as they said if your glass breaks it would be too hard to clean the frame. grrrrr

    Hi,
it's quite odd what they say. I guess it came with sealant, applied from outside once the glass had been fitted and the frame built.

    Hope that helps
    Regards,
    Robert
