Hi Brend0n,
Things like this are hard to diagnose without actually hearing the noise and feeling what the gearbox is like. If you have no other option you are going to have to take the vehicle to someone who knows what they are listening for. I wish I could offer more assistance. Has anything about the gearbox changed at all?

yeah that's what I suspected.
nothing in the gearbox has changed (other then changing the oil after the noise started).
the only thing i have done is removed the gear stick to take out the heater core/dash whilst doing the efi conversion
This is all back in, sealed and tightened up

Went to a shop this morning....from what i described (they didn't drive it)
they think worn syncros....2.5-3K drive in/out with reco'd box (does this seem heaps expensive?, not used to 4x4 prices....)
I don't have a great understanding of syncros but should they all wear at once....cause the noises happens in 1-4 mainly 1-3 and only on the up shift so that would mean all the syncros have worn at once and quickly...which doesn't sound right to me??

Definitely Syncros..
took it to a manual gearbox/diff specialist. Who came for a drive and diagnosed it as the syncros....
anyone got an R380 to suit re-co in Queensland?
I've got an auto box if some wants to do a swap or something...
