    Running rough

    Gday all,
    Question re my 89, 3.5lt injected Rangie.
    I did ask a similar question a couple of years ago but still have the problem. When cold she runs as smooth as but when hot it develops an anooying miss at idle. When driving along it seems to be fine. When under heavy load it seems to struggle and has a slight miss and farts around a bit . I tried disconnecting the cold start injector but it still has the same problem. It did play up a little more when I had headlights on only marginally though.
    Any thoughts on where I should be looking for possible causes. I am looking at selling the old girl soon and wanted it to be running right when i do.

    2 things .....

    Follow the positive lead of the battery to a Terminal Post on the firewall
    (This will do a split lead to the starter motor)
    Now get under the dash on the inside of the cabin and you will see 4 or 5'ish brown wires connected to the terminal post

    Do those wires look burnt? .... If Yes .... Replace that terminal post and fix those brown wires





    But I recon ..... You may want to find out how far the Timing chain has stretched ....

    "how stretched a timing chain is" I have no idea, was going to pull out the workshop manual. If you have info at hand that would be fantastic. Have been majorly side tracked and still havent checked wiring etc...

    pop the dizzy cap.
    rock the crank and observe how far it moves before the rotor moves.

    anything more than a couple of degrees means the chain is stretched badly.
