3.5 EFI Engine tubing, where do they go?

    Hi Forumites,

I recently got a 1986 3.5 efi, running a bit rough, in fact lucky it was running at all. Found the MAF sensor to be in a sad condition after what I can only think would have been a backfire on LPG, I've been told it's quite common.
Anyway I've now removed all the LPG stuff, personally not a great fan of LPG on Rangies.
On top of the engine on the left hand bank looking towards the back of the car there is what appears to be a solenoid or switch of some description which has a tube connection, to the right of this is another solenoid type looking device which has a couple of tube ends open, I'm wondering if anyone could have a look under their bonnet, a 3.5 efi would be a good place to start and see if they could show me via a picture or a sketch where these connections go to.
I've included a photo with three coloured cable ties a white one a red one and a yellow one, are any of these connected or if they aren't where do they go to. I assume they need to be connected to something otherwise they wouldn't be there. What are they and what do they do?

looks like things are a bit moved around but the red one is on the over run fuel shut off switch and should be connected into a t piece on the vacumn pipe to the fuel pressure regulator . the other one looks like the solenoid to increase rpm when the aircon is working but this is usually on the other side of the engine so i could be wrong on that one.

    Hi Peewee,
There is a similar looking unit on the opposite side and it's all connected up, looking like it should do. I know what you are saying, though these two units look like they should be where they are, thats the bit thats got me, I'm assuming they draw a vacuum from somewhere but I can't find an open connection. I've checked the manual but I don't know what system to look at to try and find out what they are. Appreciate the response.

The red one , as above, vacuum line to rear of plenum chamber- this gadget usually mounts at the rear of the plenum where it is near impossible to get to. The other thing I don't think belongs. There was certainly no such animal on my 88 3.5 and i had that engine in & out several times, knew every hose on the car.

Red cable tie is on the injector cut valve. It cuts the signal from the negative side of the coil to the ECU when decelerating at high revs. A known failure, just bridge the two terminals and remove the valve. Or connect it up and see if it's faulty (engine will stop when vacuum is supplied to valve)

White and yellow ties are on what I remember to be an idle-up solenoid connected to the A/C compressor clutch. One side to manifold vacuum and the other to the air inlet side of the engine. Leave it off if your A/C is not working.

    Hi bee utey,
Great thanks, you seem to be pretty well "on the money", I'm trying to find the other end of the cables that go off into the valley somewhere, the ones I need to bridge out, if they're not connected I'm going to assume they are bridged out somewhere. It sounds like the engine won't run if this solenoid is connected electrically and through a vacuum connection, if the solenoid is buggered.
The air con switch inside the car is broken so that would fit with the other "gizmo" being disconnected. Both the units I'm going to assume won't cause the engine to run rough, the injector cut valve I'm assuming the engine goes or it doesn't. The other unit as long as the vacuum side is plugged the engine will run fine, if it sn't plugged the engine could run slightly faster because more air is getting into the plenum. Appreciate the comments, thanks.
