    Transfer case gearing

Guys i notice the low range gearing is very tall, i like to crawl with out touching brakes down hill. Doe"s anyone else notice this? how have you fixed it? is there a place who make crawler gears for rangie's or can you swap a different model trans into it.
    Cheers.

Rovers have one of the lowest factory low range gearing, 3.321 or something, compare that to a nissan or toyota

While there are a number of ratio options for high range, there is only one low ratio in the LT230 box.

Ashcrofts, do make an underdrive but they only do small batches and they are sold off quickly.

Your other option is to swap the diff ratios to something like the 4.11, but you will lose some of your highway economy unless you up the high ratio gearset.

You won't find me on: faceplant; Scipe; Infragam; LumpedIn; ShapCnat or Twitting. I'm just not that interesting.

    Ive owned landcruiser's before,
here's my last hj60 cruiser,i did the following, safari turbo, air locker's F@ R, tyres 33's,35's, bar work, etc but even with 35's i feel the cruiser's low range is better then the rangie running stock tyre's.
So ill take your feed back and do some more research.
Here's a quick photo of my last truck.

The 60series cruiser has 1.9:1 low range and 35:1 1st low stock (AFAIK).

RRCs have 3.3:1 low and 43:1 or 48:1 1st low (5 speed or 4 speed).

So your RRC has much lower gearing than a 60.

However, engine compression is also a major factor. Is your rangie engine a bit tired??? What engine?

Hi guys the RRC motor is 3.9 efi v8 5 spd g/box, has 280 000 on clock, still stock standed drive line, tyres are 245's.
With the rangie i have to ride the brakes or tap them when going down hill's in low 1st, it just wants to pick up speed.
Now with my old cruiser's running 35's drive line stock i never hardy had to touch the brake's.
So cause its my every day car i would go for 4.11 but thats no good for me as i do 100kmh for 60ks a day. Fuel bill would be really bad lol.

I'd say that the high compression diesel engine in the Cruiser would have given you the perception of lower gearing, maybe?

That may be true, cause when i was running 33's i had a friend in a gu with 33's, i had foot off brake going down hill when he told me he was having to ride his brake's and couldnt beleave i was just crawling.
If only i could found the correct way of getting 1st gear the way i want.

Ah diesel verses petrol, there's your problem. Apples and oranges.
    Stick a diesel in it
