Well unfortunately the old girl has left even Rupert bewildered. We stripped and rebuilt the dizzy and confirmed spark rotor action etc. It cranked over momentarily but would not continue. Even swapped the leads around one post to try and get this thing to line up. No joy in that as the chopper wheel /sensor relationship is not altered in any way.
Still trying to source a good distributor to at least change and see if the distributor is the cause for all this misalignment.
At least I do not feel so bad on not being able to solve the riddle
