Recon Heater Unit and Air Con - where to start

Gday all... am seeking a starting point with reconditioning efforts on recently removed Air Con unit from a 1990 Range Rover Classic and a Heater Unit which i'm putting in from a 92 Sherwood RR Classic.

Air Con unit did run before i removed it, however it wasn't all that cold, even though it had been regassed recently.

Heater unit was working before i pulled it out of the donor range rover and i have hooked it up (electrics only) and the fan works. I am sure the coolant heating element works - hard for it not to really.

Whilst i've got them out of the car... where should i start, what should i replace.

    cheers for any assistance.

    What I did on mine...

I have a 93 classic. Recently did the heater and aircon saga.
    1. Replaced most of the air con hoses under the bonnet
    2. Replaced the TX valve from under the dash (the air con guy will know what it is!)
    3. Replaced the reciever dryer thingy under bonnet.
    4. New gas. (make sure your compressor is converted to suit new style gas)

All the above fixed my aircon and I am stoked as this is the first time in 3 Range Rovers that I have had working air.

    Heater.
    1. Removed all the dash, Nightmare never to be repeated!
    2. Replaced heater matrix with a brand new one
    3. New heater hoses to coolant supply.
    4. Reinstall everything (so simple when you say it like that.....)
    5. Make sure you reconnect ALL the wires, including the fresh air control soleniod or it won't blow the right combination of temps or air sources out.

After all that, I now have heat and cool-finally!

One more thing, I had to replace my thermostat too as it was stuck open. Temp guage never moved and I thought it was broken, but now with a new 88degree thermostat installed the guage actually moves like it should and the heater works MUCH better!

    Hope this helps!

    Regards,
    Richard.
