I like the idea of better clamps... might even do it (if not tooo expen$ive) on the radiator hoses etc.
Speaking of leaks in power steering, I had an odd weeping/leaking up past the adjuster nut on my Paj steering box, and a nasty groaning noise as well. - The sound was quite loud under load and could be felt (slightly) in the wheel.
Shrt story, advice from a local Power Steering Specialist..was to dump the PS fluid, and replace with light grade engine oil.... Did it, and forsooth! Noise died over a few days, and the leak has since stopped as well. Steering feels smoother and lighter, though can't prove it.
Turns out he (and his company) have been doing this for years, in all kinds of boxes from trucks to cars, and has never had a problem, quite the reverse. Every re-con and repaired system goes out either with a suitable engine oil or recommendation for one... And that includes "ZF" as well as the Jap stuff.
"What grade?" is the obvious question...and his normal answer is "Whatever goes into your engine". - I'm in no position to argue with his reasoning that 'fluid' suits a colder climate, and light engine oil suits ours here (Western Australia, 'mediterranean')
Anyone else heard of this? - Or can provide evidence that its harmful ?
