    Enhanced Rangie resto

I have had Discos for some time now, but a few months ago pick-up an 82 Rangie.
    Good condition, with no rust.
Has a 3.6 Ltr Isuzu Diesel, which has a bit of torque.
Decided to go to town on this one, so here goes.

    Soon to Turbo the 3.6
35 & 37 inch Maxxis Treps with external Beads
4 speed LT95 still going strong
Front Toyota V6 Hilux Centre with Lokka
Rear Toyota 80 series with ARB
    Longfields/Rovertraks HD CV's and axles
    4.56 reduction
    8' Nitro CWP's
    Laminated diff housings
    Wizard adjustable trailing arms
    5 inch lift
    Pro-comp shocks
Outcast Offroad Custom made sliders, front Tube winch bar
    Rear HD custom Bar.
Diff guards, Gearbox & transfer Guards and front steering guards
    Cranked HD front arms
    Rear Fuel tank guard
    12000lb winch
    Snorkel
    LR flares
    Custom centre consol
    plus alot more.

Looking forward to finishing the project in coming months.
Certainly will look the part and expected to go very well.
    Cheers Dave

    Thumbs up Sounds Terrific

Hello Dave it sounds like you have a terrific Rangie. I also have the 1982 4 door and Love it, she is standard from factory and very low kys.
Looking forward to following this build up very much.

    Cheers

Nice one, I look forward to it.

But I'm wondering about your gearing choices. The LT95 has no overdrive and even with 35" tyres the 4.56 reduction is going to make the engine scream. 100km/h would be 3000rpm. Which is 1000rpm higher than it should be.

    Your totally correct.
I asked the same question to Greg at Outcast Offroad.
Outcast are building the Rangie for me.
He advised to work on 90kms max hwy driving.
The set-up will work really well for most offroad applications, especially with the Sticky Treps.
I will see how l go, but l would say and R380/LT230 change, may be on the cards.
Think the old Fairy overdrive would drive me nuts.
Going to have to trial and error on this build up.
    Cheers Dave

Have you considered the Isuzu gearbox option?
Bigger gear spread (5.8:1 1st gear, 0.74 overdrive), bulletproof and can be mated to an LT230.

    With my Isuzu MSA and 1.003:1 LT230 I've got 2000rpm at 100km/h and a 1.4 km/h idle in 1st low. I run 3.54 diffs and still running 29" wheels.

Do you think the 3.6 turbo diesel will have enough power? In low range it would be good but hi range with 37's, sounds like a good project.
Have you considered defender 110 diffs front and back as they would be stronger than hilux and cruiser.

How much power you can get from a the 3.6 depends on the injection pump. The 3.9 litre 4BD1T's topout around 200hp/600Nm with just external adjustments on the fuel pump. The 3.6 came with either a VE rotary pump that is completely unknown fuel delivery wise or an inline pump which we can extrapolate results for if we can get all the numbers on the side.

Either way, it should be sufficient to pass all the TD5 and pumas.

The 37's will be towed out on a trailer, as not for road use.
The Toyo diffs are very strong, along with bigger axles.
The Nitro CWP are super strong in comparison.
The 3.6 4BE1 has heaps of torgue, and remember they are a light truck engine!!
The pump on mine will require a bit of adjusting, as it is over fueling.
    Cheers Dave
