    A Good Result

My ABS pump arrived back from Arizona yesterday along with a new accumulator & 2 new Bosch regulators.

Can someone explain to me why the americans have the most awesome military on earth but take 3 times as long to receive and send parcels as do the Brits? Nearly a MONTH each way!! Do they use the Brits to supply the military in the field??

Anyway, when I took off the wheels, I saw evidence of a recent brake job, so I decided to not do a complete bleed. I also decided to evaluate the accumulator before replacing it. I replaced the pump and did a quick bleed to the input on the modulator from the accumulator.

The pump was SO much quieter! A bit like an angry mozzie buzzing in your ear. It ran & ran & ran causing momentary anxiety but eventually stopped.

I started up & let it idle. The pump ran 1-2 seconds every 2-3 minutes. I got 4-5 pushes on the pedal before it ran for 1-2 seconds. Good sign!

Road test. This thing is much quieter. I can actually hear things. Good brakes. Good pedal. Good enough for me!

AND The Three Amigos have ridden into the sunset. Good Riddance!

The all important cost: $US378 for the pump. About $US 250 for the accumulator relays about $25 each. Plus Postage. Orig estimate was $Oz1500 for a new pump: take it or leave it.

    Bringing up an old thread

The ABS pump on my 94' crapped itself the other week. It started leaking and then making a screeching noise:-(

Anyways thanks Goedon for the info. I just sent the pump off to Arizona to get fixed.

Will do a complete flush and fit the reco pump before I bother to get a new accumulator. There is a guy down south who reco's the pumps and he hasn't seen a stuffed accumulator in 7 years! He swears its always the pump.. Will find out soon enough I guess.

Was contemplating changing the system to non-abs but I like the power of the ABS brakes.. would hate to go backwards.

I'm in the same boat, I think.... Pump runs for around 40 seconds at start-up. Brakes are great, touching the pedal simply makes the outside scenery slow down drastically.- No fuss or noise, very 'Briddish'... Pushing it very harder stops the picture from moving...

For $400 its worth a shot sending it to the US. This guy here in Aus can rebuild Range Rover ABS Components .. for $900 though.

Better off buying a new one for $1280 from british parts uk if you were to pay $900.

Least they have come down in price.. were well over 2k a few years ago.
