Please don't, personally I am so totally fed up with being blinded by overbright low beams, I fantasise about having a sub machine gun to take them all out. I don't give a stuff what the apologists for HIDs say, meeting them over a crest or around a bend effectively blinds the oncoming road user. My wife can no longer drive at night because of overbright lights, I just scream in frustration at another selfish *. Just stick on some nice spotties on the front and use them wisely.

maybe try crystal cut headlights and some decent headlight bulbs.

the new crystal cut lights seem to make a fair bit of difference (qualitative results)

traxide's headlight upgrade kit could be a good start too.

I think upgrading your light is a bloody good idea, whether you go HID or not. stock headlights are rubbish, there are plenty of time where you can't run spotties/high beams and still can't see anything where something with a bit more light would make it alot safer.

HID probably not the answer but upgrade your low beams to heavier wiring, upgraded globes and crystal cut lens should make it 1000 time better.

The factory Wipac headlamps are very good quality, at $50 MAX each they are cheap, too. I swapped over to them after having both my expensive Cibie inserts broken at once Upgrade your wiring via a Traxide headlamp upgrade kit and use 100W/55W quality globes, IPF or similar make good ones. Pay good money you won't be disappointed. We do lots of headlamp upgrades to Disco, RR and Defender etc and have great results using the above WITHOUT using those stupid and illegal HID kits.

Crystal Clear headlights are available for £35 a pair. I plan to fit some to my 130 (once I sort out the electrical problems...) and should be a lot brighter. I thought about HID lights, but as mentioned above, unless you have auto-leveling headlights then you are in danger of blinding anyone coming towards you. So I have some HID spotlights to go on which will give excellent main beam illumination.

Yep, have these on my RRC. Big improvement with light dispersion even using normal halogen bulbs.
Spotties aren't bad either

Steer clear of the cheaper Chinese ones and go for the Wipac E ticked ones.

The following applies to replacing your 'normal' halogen headlight (incandescent) bulbs with a HID system:-

... If you even think of putting in a set of HIDeous arc-lamps... then I'll reply at length... even 10 times longer and more savage than I have before... I shall wax eloquent, use lots of polysyllabic words, blind you with science and philosophy, use lots of bold, italics and underlined text which will slowly but surely drive you into a frothing rage, and and........- see my previous rants.

This will overload the forum server, crash the whole system, incur the wrath of every member...and it will be ALL YOUR FAULT !

My more civilised reply is that... they're not needed, they're illegal, they are not anywhere near as effective as the majority of their supporters think... (If indeed they think at all...) and to make them meet ADR's - IF its possible AND allowable.... would co$t way more than any actual benefit, or even perceived value.

Take the advice in the previous posts, all of it good, a lot cheaper, safer, Very Effective, fantastic value for money... and no risk of being shot at!

Speaking of ADR's, you can download them, print them out and read at leisure. I suggest all supporters of HID do so.

If you want more light When You Need It, I'd be happy to help you mount a couple of anti-aircraft searchlights..and wire them into the High Beam circuit .

By the way, how clean are the INsides of your standard headlight units ? Glass, and reflector surfaces.
