89 rangie air con compressor wires

    Hi all .
Can anyone tell me if the 2 red wires coming out of the clutch on my 89 model compressor both carry positive current .
I wish to do a hotwire test to see if i can get the clutch to engage which currently is not .
    Thanks everyone.

No AFAIK one is an earth. The one that comes via the switch or switches on the receiver dryer will be the trigger wire.

test it with a test light.multi meter shows 12volts on both sides.

i think its feed back 12 volts maybe from the ecu or a fan relay.
or you got a fried diode.these normally run of a relay in the fuse box and some earth through the low pressure switch.

i think the overheat switch is on the earth side of the coil.?'maybe.
it isnt on other sanden compressors.

if the diodes are not present in the harness-the coil will work either way [it works slightly better the right way]

the system is junk and realy needs a wire cutter.

here is thewiring diagram for a 87 which should be the same as 89. One wire is power , one is earth. They should be different colours.

Sorry that didn't work. I will try this.

Power should be Black green and earth black. It looks like someone has changed the wires .
I just had a look at a picture of mine and it has 2 red wires at the compressor, but go a bit further back and you should see the correct wires.

    Regards Philip A

Can you tell me where the relay is for the compressor . If its in the bank in the engine bay I dont know which relay is for what function . I have a bank of 6 or 7 in there .

if its has a sanden piston pump on the driver side and power is on both wires.
check earth wire for the condencor fan.

My hiline is an 1989 and these are like a dealer fitted AMC system.
I was thinking before you had a later vehicle with a TR scroll pump on the left side,.
