G,day When it comes to your kids safety is first . if unshore find a baby seat fitting station. In vic you can ring racv for one in your area or just get on the net to find one in your area. safety First
Hi all,
Have a little one on the way and was wandering if anyone knew of any standard tie down points for a babyseat. Can't see one on the boot floor and have scuba gas tanks potentially covering one if there.
Have read about aftermarket welds in the roof but unsure how the misses would feel about trusting my amateur welding etc..
Please help.
Cheers
Christian

My 1992 has 3 mounts above the tailgate with plugs in them.
I think the 90 has too , so have a look.

As said usually above the tailgate, there may be plugs that hide an anchor point.
DO NOT weld in your own, these will be illegal and in the event of an accident you will face charges. Any points like this fitted require and engineering certificate.
The other option is to get a crab bar that basically is fitted to the floor or wheel arches behind the rear seat.

I've a 90 model and there are points inside the top of the tailgate opening - although mine only has two. The roof lining in your truck may not have any holes through it.
I've pulled the lining, upper tailgate and roof off my RRC to show you. Photo's from the upper left side of the truck - they're the two tabs either side of the rear wiper motor. It's interesting that there are only two and also, they both use different fasteners - one something like self-tappers; the other bolts. Also, there aren't any holes for the third.
Suggest you gently prise away the roof lining, perhaps after removing some of the fixings and look for these before having any mods done. You could also just press in the right spots to feel for them. The following is from the rear looking up to the front, so you know where to press.
Middle anchor point is 70mm to the left of the washer jet and the left anchor point is 300mm to the left of the wiper shaft.
cheers
I attached mine to the seatbelt anchors which are right behind the rear seats. Can't see a problem with this but might not be kosha. If you fold the rear seats forward you might be able to access them below your LPG tanks.
Thanks bidds, I've got similar points but didn't think the self tappers would sufficiently support a load in event of a crash. What do you reckon? I'll attach photos of what I've got.
Thanks a lot for the pics bidds much appreciated!
Now that you see what the genuine LR restraint mounts are like, you can see why I made my own:

I went through all of this last year with my '83 and keep meaning to put up a detailed thread about it for guys like you. (I'd have the time, too, if I didn't have to keep working on the damn Rangie!)
I had a CRAB bar sent over and got the authorised fitter in Broome to put it in, which included the approval sticker that he filled out, so it's all safe and legal. He didn't know what to do with an old Rangie and had never heard of the bar, so I wound up doing the research and telling him what needed to be done, which he was happy with. It just goes to show how you have to do your research, which, I might add, was almost entirely through this forum!
I'm away from my computer with all the photos I have of it, so please send me a PM next week and I'll make sure to put up a thread.
Since I'm in a small town in the bush, I also thought about making my own mounts but the legalities of it are are such a worry that the CRAB bar was an easier way to go. (Though Scouse's look great - a worthwhile engineer would certify them.)
At any given point in time, somewhere in the world someone is working on a Land-Rover.
