    Refitting injectors

I am trying to get my 88 back on the road and suspect there will be a lot more questions to come. I am about to reassemble the inlet system. 2 quick questions:
Haynes says use "sealant" between ram housing and manifold and plenum. Do I use silicone or gasket sealant or something else?
Also says replace injector housing seals. Is this really necessary? Does CBC sell them by any chance? Thanks

You should replace the Orings at the bottom.
Examine the little hoses on the top to ensure they are not cracked. Those hoses rupturing is a major cause of engine fires .

    Those little hoses

I wondered about "those little hoses". They are cracked but not leaking (and not leaking down when I pressurised them with air). They appear to be just pushed on at the injector end and have an odd little metal saucer. When I get them off, do I just use a hose clamp with the new hose?

Yes I have seen specialists do it that way. Probably the only way. It looks pretty untidy though.

    Putting it back together

OK, found and fitted nice new FI hose with 16 clamps. I found a friend who had a spare set of what I shall call the retaining washer which goes round the body of the injector and a set of what Haynes calls the "small rubber sealing washer" which seals the injector tip into the manifold. Just as well he had them; the dealer wanted $10.95 x 16 and had no stock. The old retaining washers around the injectors were large enough that the spectacle shaped retaining plates squashed them a bit to hold the injectors in place. The new retaining washers are narrow enough to pass through the spectacle shaped retaining plates and hence the plates no longer appear to serve any purpose. Is this normal? Suggestions? Thanks
