Efi or carby

I have been using SU carbs on my Range Rover that were installed on my 110 when purchased, I agree that tuning them is a bit difficult but with a proper air suction meter the calibration is less stressful.

These carbs need to have all their seals in perfect condition otherwise it will be impossible to tune them.

On the performance issue they are very responsive, they don't have the flooding problem because of their design. My advise is to fill their domes with AT oil during summer time and engine oil in winter time to get a better acceleration.

They are so good that whenever I find one for sale I automatically buy it.

You can't have too much of a budget so you might have trouble keeping the fuel tank full.

EFI came out in 1986 but the 1988 is the pick of the older EFI cars (last of the manual centre diff lock). From what I've seen , some older 2 door RRs seem to fetch more than an early EFI car lately.

Correct Scott my budget is low and I'm not chasing a car I can jump in and drive, Im selling my torana hatchback so now I'm looking for a new project and something I can keep on club rego, the torana had triple su's and I got sick of tuning them all the time, so this project has to be injected or hassle free.

Something wrong there. Properly installed and tuned SU's are set and forget. SU's seem to attract a swarm of self appointed experts who love to fiddle with them. When you get them set up properly, put a big ball of barbed wire around them to keep these "experts" away.

My P6b has twin SUs on it... I rebuilt the engine and the carbs, tuned it and everything- by myself, when i was still in school! Have one of those gunsen carb tuner tools, that made life alot easier. 6 years later, it still starts and idles fine!

My rangie has a 350 holley modified for dual fuel on a p76 4.4.. goes well, haven't had any hassles on or offroad with flooding. Have tuned it once when I installed it- haven't touched it since (about 6 months now). Was going to go injected but if i did, i would get rid of the lucas rubbish and wire it up on a haltec or similar. I'd prefer a carb over lucas injection.

What sort of restrictions do you have in Qld?
A RR with EFI wouldn't qualify in NSW as it's not over 30 years old. We also have useage/modification limitations too.

In QLD as long as the vehicle itself is 30 years or older you can get club rego regardless of what engine/gearbox/diffs/etc.. are fitted (as long as it has a mod plate or been engeneered) along with restrictions on how far you can drive if not on a club trip and so forth.

Couple of blokes in our club who have Rangie classics and have non-standard engines fitted and they're on club reg.

As long as they are period modifications. A 200tdi in a series 1 or two would not be legal for historic rego - but a holden engine would be. I am sure there are vehicles on historic rego that should not be.

Historic rego I don't know much about. I done a fair bit of reserch into club rego and wanted a 2 door Rangie for club trips to save some serious $$$ on rego, paying nearly $1K for a Rangie I used about 15-20 times a year was a waste (QLD rego is a bloody rip-off especially for a V8 :eek:). It never eventauted, I changed my mind them moved to Victoria.

Full rego in VIC is about $50 more than 6 months in QLD but roadies are harder to pass though only down side :mad: Still better than NSW, every bloody year, poor buggers.

Historic and club rego is the same thing - over 30years of age - vehicle unmodified except for period modifications and accessories and legislated modern safety requirements.

Cannot be used except for Club trips (also if invited by another club), test drives and maintenance.
