If you suspect the fuel pump then next time you can't start it try belting the bottom of the fuel tank with a mallet or good lump of wood while cranking it over. An old nrma guy did it with mine when my first fuel pump died or was dying and usually gets you going again. It's only a short term fix but will confirm it's a fuel pump issue nonetheless

Sorry about that - wasn't intended that way BUT as it turned out, it was the friggin battery which was on the way out but didn't respond as a worn-out battery normally will - and yes, you're right, I don't have much of a clue but at aged 79; had the Rangie a year and having suffered a stroke and second heart attack in this time what would you expect......thanks.Quote:

My Rangie has chucked a hissy-fit this week. Its been sitting for some weeks, being drip-fed on the charger, and I gave it a 30km run to work. Ran fine, perfectly normal.
On the way home later that night...it was NOT happy, sluggish, felt a little missing, maybe, no-smooth,,, and reluctant to exceed 2000rpm.
No-load parked, it would run up to 3500 easily and without fuss, albeit slower that I expected.
Acceleration was less, and putting the foot down further around 60km/h made it rougher, and almost slower.... Easing off and letting it build up speed gradually would get me to 83km or so, at which point the torque-converter locks up.
But holding it between lock-up and drop-out was a balancing act.
Because its got the standard exhaust, (quiet!) I can't easily pick it as "missing" or down on power and smooothness.
Its done 185K, inside of the dizzy cap looks clean and dry, rotor button good. Leads...dunno and plugs looked clean when I sampled a couple., and the IGN module is mounted on the front panel next to the radiator.
I thought it was feeling neglected, but I suspect Mr Lucas has struck....:o
What am I missing ??? :eek:
