Classic RR - Stopping - Starting again
My 92 RR classic had a similar problem last week - 30 km trip to work , with 5kms of 70-80 kph road, no traffic lights , with a slight rise at the end RR start to cough & splutter on normal pedal pressure for that speed - but with no pedal it would just idle along - then stall. Made the same trip the next day ( same time/traffic conditions) & it did the same again on the rise(hill) but stalling got much worse - limped along & managed to park it , walk away & come back to it after work that day. Started Ok & drove to a "friendly" garage to check it over.
I deduced fuel (Pump) - took it out , looked at the filter on the end of the pump (in the swirl pot) it looked blocked - tried to blow/suck through it , definitely not much getting through. Bought a Holden VN filter ( dealer didn`t have a pump ) gave it the blow/suck through test - what a difference!
Fitted it to existing pump ( which had the old VN part No. on it ! - so 92RR has had at least 2x pumps in its 210K life to date) but filter is a rectangular shape & hard to fit correctly.
Have now driven around for 200kms, on same trip to work & elsewhere etc appears problem solved. But I think I will get a spare pump just in case - only problem appears that with the new VN pump has a "pin" arrangement for the electrical connections ( not like the spade connection of old ) But did notice that one of the Ebay suppliers of the pumps, supplies in the kit,a suitable plug with wires to set up correctly
