My Rangie has chucked a hissy-fit this week. Its been sitting for some weeks, being drip-fed on the charger, and I gave it a 30km run to work. Ran fine, perfectly normal.
On the way home later that night...it was NOT happy, sluggish, felt a little missing, maybe, no-smooth,,, and reluctant to exceed 2000rpm.

No-load parked, it would run up to 3500 easily and without fuss, albeit slower that I expected.

Acceleration was less, and putting the foot down further around 60km/h made it rougher, and almost slower.... Easing off and letting it build up speed gradually would get me to 83km or so, at which point the torque-converter locks up.
But holding it between lock-up and drop-out was a balancing act.

Because its got the standard exhaust, (quiet!) I can't easily pick it as "missing" or down on power and smooothness.

Its done 185K, inside of the dizzy cap looks clean and dry, rotor button good. Leads...dunno and plugs looked clean when I sampled a couple., and the IGN module is mounted on the front panel next to the radiator.

I thought it was feeling neglected, but I suspect Mr Lucas has struck....

    What am I missing ???

It's one of the ways Lucas amps fail, slowly. About 50% of Lucas amp failures I meet are like that.

    Chuck it and go Bosch.

    Thanks BeeUtey,

-I've found myself thinking of alternative IGNs recently... so it looks like my premonition is correct.

I can't recall if we asked this before... have you used this one from evilBay or have had good/bad reports of it? - 'non-bosch' BIM 024 from partsdencom.

Anything would be better than Sir Joe's.....

Wouldn't bother, genuine Bosch is still around $60 from Bursons (trade), why go Chinese unless you're desparate. Used ones from a pick-a-part wreckers are cheaper again. PM me if you want a new amp pre-mounted with used matching coil and heat sink, I have sent out a few.

Classic RR - Stopping - Starting again

My 92 RR classic had a similar problem last week - 30 km trip to work , with 5kms of 70-80 kph road, no traffic lights , with a slight rise at the end RR start to cough & splutter on normal pedal pressure for that speed - but with no pedal it would just idle along - then stall. Made the same trip the next day ( same time/traffic conditions) & it did the same again on the rise(hill) but stalling got much worse - limped along & managed to park it , walk away & come back to it after work that day. Started Ok & drove to a "friendly" garage to check it over.
I deduced fuel (Pump) - took it out , looked at the filter on the end of the pump (in the swirl pot) it looked blocked - tried to blow/suck through it , definitely not much getting through. Bought a Holden VN filter ( dealer didn`t have a pump ) gave it the blow/suck through test - what a difference!
Fitted it to existing pump ( which had the old VN part No. on it ! - so 92RR has had at least 2x pumps in its 210K life to date) but filter is a rectangular shape & hard to fit correctly.
Have now driven around for 200kms, on same trip to work & elsewhere etc appears problem solved. But I think I will get a spare pump just in case - only problem appears that with the new VN pump has a "pin" arrangement for the electrical connections ( not like the spade connection of old ) But did notice that one of the Ebay suppliers of the pumps, supplies in the kit,a suitable plug with wires to set up correctly
